SHE Changes Climate Kenya Network
Launched in March 2024, SCC Kenya is building a national platform to amplify women-led climate leadership rooted in equity, inclusion, and local knowledge. By engaging grassroots activists, policymakers, and private sector partners, SCC Kenya drives intersectional solutions to build a gender-responsive climate movement and shape bold climate policy from the ground up.
Key Milestones
March 2024: Launch of SCC Kenya
On March 27, SCC Kenya officially launched during a powerful International Women’s Day Networking Breakfast in Nairobi. Two vibrant panel discussions showcased women’s leadership in conservation tech and sustainable business. The event brought together cross-sector stakeholders and set the foundation for a long-term movement toward inclusive climate governance.
September 2024: Kenya Country Consultation
Held on September 10, this consultation was part of SCC’s global pre-COP30 process. Women leaders from across sectors contributed key priorities, including simplifying policy language, enhancing grassroots leadership, improving digital access, and integrating gender-health connections into climate plans.
Some of the key recommendations from the consultation included:
Advocating for Gender-Inclusive Climate Policy: Actively engage in climate policy processes to ensure gender considerations are integrated from the outset, using simplified language to enable participation by women and marginalized groups.
Developing a Strategic Roadmap for Women’s Leadership: Design and implement a plan to increase the representation of women in climate leadership, particularly at the grassroots level, by identifying, supporting, and amplifying women leaders.
Implementing Capacity-Building Programs: Launch targeted initiatives to educate and equip women with the knowledge and tools to understand climate impacts and lead effective local responses.
Fostering Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships across civil society, government, and the private sector to coordinate efforts and elevate women’s voices in climate decision-making.
Promoting Accessible Climate Communication: Use inclusive, user-friendly platforms to share gender-sensitive climate information, positioning SCC Kenya as a trusted knowledge hub.
Increasing Digital Accessibility: Expand access to digital tools and resources to enable women, particularly in marginalized areas, to engage in climate dialogues and decision-making.
Integrating Gender and Health in Climate Policy: Ensure climate action plans address the specific health challenges faced by women during climate-related events.
September 2024: Ozone Day Celebrations
SCC Kenya partially sponsored national Ozone Day activities and engaged with 25+ new contacts across civil society, government, and media. These relationships strengthen SCC’s role in national climate education and advocacy.
March 2025: International Women’s Day 2025
SCC Kenya gathered women leaders from renewable energy, media, and social enterprises to discuss climate finance, mentorship, and entrepreneurial leadership. The session emphasized bottom-up innovation, blended finance models, and strengthening local ecosystems.

Strengthening networks and mentorship for women entrepreneurs.
Focusing on bottom-up solutions, led by grassroots communities.
Leveraging climate funds, green bonds, and venture capital to advance women-led projects.
