When women leaders come together, we create a stronger force to tackle today’s climate challenges and safeguard our shared future.

Our Achievements in 2024

In 2024, SHE Changes Climate transitioned from a campaign into a movement dedicated to uniting and amplifying women's voices, agency, and innovative solutions in climate action. During the course of the year, country networks were established in India, Brazil, Zimbabwe, France, Nepal and Kenya.

In addition, we invited our partners, allies, supporters, and everyone actively involved in climate action to participate in a collaborative process of co-creating the future direction of our movement. This process planted the seeds of a robust Strategic Action Plan that will guide SHE Changes Climate in the years to come.

  • In January 2024, Azerbaijan, the host country for COP29, established an Organizational Committee for the event. However, it was surprising to note that out of the 28 committee members, there was not a single woman present.

This situation prompted us to issue a statement regarding the COP29 Organizational Committee, which ultimately led to the inclusion of women in the committee.

  • Our global mission can only be achieved by taking action at local and national level. Therefore, in the first quarter of 2024, we set up networks in six countries: Brazil, France, India, Kenya, Nepal and Zimbabwe.

These networks will serve as national hubs for women leaders to identify and advance climate action in their respective countries.

  • In June 2024, as the EU moved towards adopting a groundbreaking law to restore and protect nature, efforts faced resistance from rising antidemocratic movements. With the EU elections approaching, citizens had the power to support leaders dedicated to the EU Biodiversity Strategy and safeguarding forests, oceans, and vital habitats.

SHE Changes Climate highlighted women leaders driving this change. We shared their stories and impact, inspiring action ahead of the EU Elections on 6-9 June 2024.

    More on the campaign

  • In September 2024, we conducted a global consultation along with five country consultations, featuring inspiring leaders from Nepal, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and India.

The primary focus of these consultations was to gain a deeper understanding of the needs, gaps, challenges, opportunities, and expectations regarding women's leadership in climate action. The outcome of the discussions informed our Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029.

The overarching goal of the summit was to raise climate ambition and scale up solutions addressing the planetary emergency. The full summit video can be found here.

Our Achievements in 2022

In 2022, SHE Changes Climate continued to advance its global mission: to ensure that all climate negotiation delegations include at least 50% representation of women at the highest levels, now and in the future. Central to our vision is the call for COP to adopt a Co-Presidency model, recognizing that true climate leadership is strongest when women and men lead together.

  • In September 2022, we sent an open letter to the COP27 Presidency and Leadership team, calling on them for greater accountability and transparency on male/female parity on the Egyptian COP27 leadership team. Our letter was supported by over 700 female and male environmental leaders worldwide. You can see the outcomes and the full text of the letter here.

  • On November 4, 2022, SHE Changes Climate and Partners hosted an inclusive event that provided open access to inspiring dialogues from around our planet, valuing diversity and a new model of shared leadership for a sustainable future. Read about the event here.

  • Women must wait 136 years before we get gender parity. With the latest IPCC report stating half of the world is highly vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis, we say enough is enough. The climate crisis cannot wait for men to act, we need women at the top table now. Watch our short film here.

Our Achievements in 2021

In just over a year we’ve achieved an amazing amount of impact by maximising our available resources. As we reflect on our first year of campaigning, the Founders and Steering Committee continue to meet regularly to discuss the future purpose, mission and activities of SHE Changes Climate. To ensure this thinking is grounded in the needs of our community, we will be hosting a number of sessions with our allies in 2022. We commit to ensuring we calibrate our respective messaging to maximum effect.

SHE Change Climate gathering women leaders at COP26, UK

  • In December 2020, we sent the open letter to the UK Government, calling on them for greater accountability and transparency on male/female parity on the UK COP26 leadership team. Our letter was supported by over 450 female and male environmental leaders worldwide. You can see the outcomes and the full text of the letter here.

  • As part of our Countdown to COP26 Podcast Series, we asked influential women from around the world to describe how their work connected with climate change and what difference having more women on the COP26 team would make to their work downstream in the future. See more here

  • Disappointed by the lack of female representation at COP26, we took it upon ourselves to host our own event at The Pipe Factory in the art district of Glasgow on Tuesday 9th November 2021. The inaugural She Changes Climate Day at COP26 showcased how women accelerate climate action and are already enacting solutions to the climate crisis. Check out this section for more information and clips!

  • In the run-up to COP26 we launched our #5050Vision calling for all parties to be represented in decision-making because all parties are affected. See the breakdown here.

  • This International Women's Day (IWD), women must wait 136 years before we get gender parity. With the latest IPCC report stating half of the world is highly vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis, we say enough is enough. The climate crisis cannot wait for men to act, we need women at the top table now. More details are available here.
