This year has felt like standing on shifting ground. Around the world, we are watching a familiar pattern repeat: progress on climate action is hard-won, fragile, and far too slow. Climate impacts continue to accelerate regardless. The outcomes of COP30 in Brazil signalled only a small move toward phasing out fossil fuels — welcome, yet painfully inadequate.
Women’s leadership and gender equality were on the agenda, but only because people, mostly women, pushed relentlessly to keep them there. Progress does not happen on its own. It happens because individuals and movements insist on it.
The consequences of insufficient action are already reshaping lives everywhere — in homes, communities, businesses, and entire countries. Yet women continue to lead: innovating in clean energy, restoring forests and mangroves, driving smart agriculture, advocating for ocean conservation, safeguarding knowledge and biodiversity, and building bridges across sectors and borders. Women are also decision-makers and policymakers, holding the line where global systems are failing to deliver.
But we need more of them, and we need to support them
At SHE Changes Climate, we champion these leaders. We advocate for women’s equal representation in climate decision-making and for climate policies that include everyone, because a just transition cannot be built by half the world. Transforming systems at the scale and speed required demands collaboration. Women have always understood this.
When we invest in women, we invest in cooperation, resilience, and solutions that uplift whole societies.
