A Global Movement Driving Women’s Leadership in Climate Action

SHE Changes Climate

is committed to building a global movement of 10,000 women climate leaders who drive systemic policy changes and implement equitable solutions to reduce climate-gender inequalities in at least 20 countries.

Why we need women in leadership positions

Climate change exacerbates existing inequalities, with its effects—extreme weather, resource scarcity, and displacement—hitting women and girls the hardest.

However, women are not just victims of the climate crisis: they are powerful drivers of positive change. Evidence shows that higher representation of women in national parliaments correlates with stronger climate policies and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

Despite this, the limited participation of women in climate negotiations and policy-making remains a critical challenge. Over the past decade, women's participation in party delegations at COPs has made little progress, hovering around just 34%. This absence has far-reaching consequences, including biased policies that fail to address the needs of women. Therefore, without women’s perspectives, climate policies often fall short, delaying the progress urgently needed for both mitigation and adaptation.

Our Short Film

Created by Earth Minutes & Visionary Pictures in partnership with Clim8, our short film explores female leadership in the face of climate change: giving voice to those missing from global climate negotiations and examining the actions needed to drive a better future for all. It captures powerful voices that highlight the importance of a gendered narrative in climate change, leadership, indigenous rights, and scientific research.

The film was nominated for awards by The Earth Futures Festival and the Lift-Off Global Network Sessions 2022.
