We are contributing to a better world for people and the planet through a unique mentorship experience.

About the Program

The Be One Mentoring is a mentorship program designed by SHE Changes Climate to support young, budding professionals in developing career-specific skills in sustainability, climate action, and environmental protection. In particular, the program seeks to provide practical tools, leadership skills, network contacts, orientation advice, mental health and psychosocial support to high-potential individuals who are dedicated to addressing the planetary emergency. The focus is to unlock their potential to create positive impacts for the people and communities around them, while keeping a good balance and a sustained level of energy in their life. The program aims at boosting their careers, while preventing them and their teams from the risks of eco-anxiety, burn-out or depression. The red thread is to develop a high level of resilience to be able to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world and the occurrence of systemic shocks such as climate break-down, biodiversity collapse, war and conflicts or pandemics.

By building a high-trust team around them, and by nurturing and growing a healthy ecosystem of actors dedicated to sustainability, the mentees feel empowered and supported by their network, inspired by the spirit of radical collaboration, working as “One Team for One Planet”.

The program is hosted on a mentorship platform (OneUpOneDown) that features user-friendly resources to support mentors and mentees. During the course of the program, we also host masterclasses with Guest Speakers dedicated to resilience, mental health, wellbeing and sustainability.

We invite mentors from all around the globe to join our vibrant community and support young professionals in their transition to a new professional life.

Mentor matching for young professionals in sustainability, climate action and environmental protection.

Our mentor matching method provides ongoing transformational learning and development experiences for young professionals in sustainability, climate action and environmental protection fields. We have designed our programs with the idea of ‘giving and receiving’ where young professionals can give and receive mentorship simultaneously. As people, we have an innate desire to give back, but we also have a desire to learn, so we’re offering the opportunity to do both.

We make near-peer mentor matches to enable transformational growth.

Near-peer mentorship is where mentors are just a couple of life stages ahead of mentees. This form of mentoring results in highly relevant advice and enhances both the mentor and mentee’s ability to relate to one another. Each match lasts three months so mentor and mentee can work together over time to create a trusted relationship and experience outcomes together.

Become a Mentee!

It can be hard to find the person you need in your life to guide you. We make this process easy by proposing the most suitable mentor in our network at a given time, taking into consideration your professional and personal learning needs.

Some of the benefits you can expect in participating in the mentoring programme include:

  • Getting mental health and psychosocial support to navigate the rough landscape of climate justice

  • Gaining the perspective of someone who is a couple of steps ahead in a pathway you’re interested in taking

  • Building relevant soft skills, such as gaining confidence, improving communication and finding purpose and direction

  • Exploring career opportunities and building relationships to help open doors and create new career pathways

  • Having someone in your corner to share ideas, validate decisions and support you to put your best foot forward

  • Getting practical tools, leadership skills, network contacts and orientation advice to transition into professional life

  • Creating a balance between work and life, for mental and physical wellbeing.

The matches made will be specific to the areas of personal and professional development that are most important to you at this point in your journey.

Mentee applications for the 2023 cohort are closed, but we invite you to express your interest in joining the 2024 cohort by reaching out to sakwa@shechangesclimate.org. We will gladly add you to our waiting list.

Become a Mentor!

Would you like to find the right person to support with your experience? We make this process easy by proposing the most suitable mentee in our network at a given time, taking into consideration your professional and personal experience. The program has resources to support mentors through the journey. These are designed to teach mentoring skills in a way that transfers directly into developing leadership capabilities.

We also organise mentors’ masterclasses with top mentoring experts. You will be guided on how to package information, handle different mentee situations as well as communicate with them more effectively. These sessions will enhance your mentoring skills and help you deliver memorable and inspiring sessions.
